Despite trying to stay well over winter the inevitable coughs, colds and sore throats are now circulating, so NHS Wyre Forest Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is reminding patients how best to get medical help.
In many instances the most effective way to treat winter symptoms is to take rest and lots of fluids. Over the counter remedies will often help, so a trip to your local pharmacy is a good starting point.
A pharmacist is trained to be able to offer help and support with your symptoms; most have private rooms so you don’t need to have a discussion at the counter. This service is particularly useful for those already on treatment who want to be sure they don’t take anything which may interact with their normal medication.
If you do need to see your GP it’s worth registering for Patient Online. This is an NHS England initiative which allows patients to book appointments and request repeat prescriptions online so there’s no need to ring the GP practice. The receptionist at your practice can give you the forms to fill in so you can get started. More information can be found on www.nhs.uk.
