This is why NHS Wyre Forest CCG is supporting the campaign, organised by the Alzheimer’s Society, and is encouraging people in Worcestershire to become a Dementia Friend. Anyone can become a Dementia Friend simply by watching a short video online or by attending a face-to-face information session to increase their understanding of the condition.

Dr Simon Rumley, Chair and Clinical Lead for NHS Wyre Forest CCG, said: “As you get older the risk of developing dementia increases, and it’s estimated that one in three people over the age of 65 will develop the condition, an incredibly high statistic.
“People with dementia can live well and if diagnosed early there are ways to slow it down and maintain mental function.
“It’s important that people don’t face the condition alone, there are organisations like Alzheimer’s Society out there that can help. We also have over 10,000 dementia friends in Worcestershire, helping us take one step closer to creating a dementia-friendly society.”
Anyone that would like to talk through their concerns about dementia can speak with the Alzheimer’s Society by calling 0300 222 1122.
There are plenty of other ways that you can get involved in Dementia Awareness Week and these can be found on the Alzheimer’s Society website
